Calico's prospects are excellent, says Government watchdog

Calico, Lancashire's leading provider of services for people in the area, has been given the highest possible grade for its improvement prospects by the Audit Commission.
Following a short-notice inspection in March, in which Calico customers were interviewed and performance inspected, the inspector's final report said that overall, performance across the organisation shows that the majority of areas are either meeting targets or improving,
"Improvements are being made and are leading to high levels of satisfaction, customer feedback is acted upon and directs change. Tenants are involved in setting performance targets and effectively involved in developing an action plan following this inspection. If each objective is achieved, this plan will deliver significant improvements for customers."
The "excellent" standard is one awarded to just a few housing companies nationally, and Calico's Tenant Chair of the Board, Wynn McGeorge said that this is definitely something for the community to be proud of, "Calico has come a long way in just under ten years. In that time we've seen significant improvements to the services that Calico provides. Most of all there have been improvements in the quality of homes and millions spent on successful improvement programmes. These changes wouldn't have come about without the involvement of the community, and it is good to see the Audit Commission have recognised that."
These comments were echoed by chief executive Michael Birkett, "Clearly this is a fantastic result and an endorsement of the progress that we are making. There are always things that can be done better, but this report shows that we are committed to providing consistently excellent services to our customers." |
