Broxbourne Housing Association lets first new homes to local families
|
| Sunday 9th August 2009 |
Three families were delighted to celebrate the completion of their newly built four-bedroom homes at Great Cambridge Road in Cheshunt on Friday 10th July.
The homes are the first new homes for local people built by Broxbourne Housing Association and the residents will be moving in this week.
The Mahmud family are delighted with their brand new four bedroom house. Mrs Mahmud said: "It is a fantastic place to live and a fantastic house. Broxbourne Housing Association has been very helpful and has made the process easy and quick. I just can't believe my family are going to move into a new house - everything is good!".
At the launch, The Mayor, Councillor Mrs Lyn White, cut the ribbon while BHA Chairman Derek Hawes presented a bouquet of flowers to each family and all the children received sweets. Everybody had the chance to tuck into a huge cake which replicated the three new houses.
BHA has worked in partnership with Broxbourne Council, East Thames Housing and Relmfield Builders. The houses will be managed by BHA and have been built to high environmental standards to make them energy efficient. The building is of timber frame construction which is a renewable material. It has solar thermal heating panels to pre-heat water and reduce heating bills. It also has water efficient and recycling products such as aerated taps, dual flush toilets, concealed water butts and built in recycling storage. The new tenants have all been nominated by Broxbourne Borough Council from the housing waiting list.
Commenting on the new homes BHA Chairman Derek Hawes said: "We have been established for just over three years and I am delighted that as well as investing in and improving the homes and communities of the 4000 properties we acquired from Broxbourne Council, we have also been able to progress building new homes. These are the first of 100 homes to be completed as part of our development programme. When consulted about the transfer of their homes to BHA in 2006, tenants told us that building new affordable homes was a high priority. Today is an important milestone in our partnership with the Borough Council and the Homes and Communities Agency to help meet the local need for affordable homes".
The Mayor, Councillor Mrs Lyn White said: "I have been pleased to see BHA meeting the promises that we made to tenants to improve their homes. To witness the start of the new build programme is the icing on the cake!". |
