The fifth birthday of Barnet Homes went off with a bang after its Chair was named joint winner of a major national award.
Vi Britchfield, who is 82, was presented with the joint Board Member of the Year prize at the National Federation of ALMOs (NFA) awards on 1 April, in recognition of her inspirational leadership and commitment to improving the lives of thousands of Barnet residents.
The award came precisely five years after Barnet Homes was created to manage council housing across the borough of Barnet and to bring homes up to modern day standards.
Vi became involved in decision-making relatively late in life, joining Barnet Homes’ Board in October 2005 before being elected as the company’s first ever resident chair in April 2008.
Her election came during a period of major change for the Board, with eight new directors and two co-opted directors joining within a five month period.
But Vi has an excellent understanding of housing issues in Barnet, having been first a tenant and then a leaseholder in the borough since 1956. |
