Ann Widdecombe MP visits Trust
|
| Thursday 17th January 2008 |
Local MP Ann Widdecombe spent time getting to know the work of Maidstone Housing Trust better on Friday 11 January.
Ms Widdecombe spent time discussing current issues with the Trust's Chief Executive, Peter Stringer, and a representative from Maidstone Borough Council. She then took a short tour of some of the housing areas the Trust owns and manages.
During the tour Ms Widdecombe visited a customer in East Farleigh with a recently fitted kitchen, and a resident of the Trust's Extra Care sheltered scheme at Hardwick House in Shepway.
The Trust has refitted over 3000 kitchens and 2500 bathrooms in residents' homes since February 2004. Customer choice includes door finishes, worktop and tiles, and flooring.
Mr Jones was delighted to meet Ms Widdecombe. He explained how he lived in Finch Court, Ringlestone, until recently. His move was prompted by the Trust's regeneration of sheltered housing, and how moving to Hardwick House has improved his quality of life. The Extra Care service offers almost 24 hour care to residents and freshly cooked hot meals every day of the week. The scheme is run in partnership with Maidstone Borough Council, Kent County Council Adult Services and Allied Healthcare.
Chief Executive Peter Stringer said, "It was a pleasure to spend time with Ms Widdecombe and show her some of the work we're doing in her constituency. It was useful to talk with her about current issues, so she can assist and advise her constituents. We hope that we will be able to hold meetings on a regular basis." |
