A2 scoop prestigious Evening Standard New Homes award
|
| Saturday 31st May 2008 |
We have added a silver Eros statue and plaque to the company's recent list of award wins, being highly commended by the judges in the 'Best new development in the Affordable Homes sector' at the prestigious Evening Standard New Homes Awards 2008.
Awarded to A2 for the 'Long Meadow Close and Horsletts Cottages' development in Winchmore Hill, Buckinghamshire, at a glittering lunch at London's Dorchester hotel, the award recognised the most imaginative and practical development for either shared ownership or rental homes across London and the South East. The awards are judged uniquely in that entries are scrutinised by readers of the Evening Standard, a panel of experts from the house building sector, and housing association tenants.
Avril Blanchot, one of the award organisers, comments: "These are tenant judges from a diverse range of backgrounds, all living in the South East, who would actually live in these homes, and have very clear ideas about what works and what doesn't".
From the submissions, the panel shortlisted 159 properties and developments and, between them, visited every one to ensure entries were representative of the submission and final development.
Judge and property consultant Anthea Sherley-Dale comments: "The commended development in Winchmore Hill was completely different to the overall winner of this category. The setting is a rural one; A2 worked hard to overcome resistance from local residents who weren't that keen to see affordable homes built in their village. The result of their hard work is a cracking looking scheme, sustainable for many years to come, built under challenging circumstances".
Learning of the latest win, John Knevett, Chief Executive of A2 said: "The awards have been in existence for 17 years so to be highly commended in the single category representing our sector is not only a fantastic achievement for all those involved with the scheme, but a highly credible accolade recognised by our peers and private house builders alike". |
