2 Stars and Excellent Prospects

Blackpool Coastal Housing (BCH) is celebrating after being awarded two out of a possible three stars in a recent inspection by the Audit Commission.

The inspection report acknowledged that Blackpool Coastal Housing provides a good service to customers and has excellent prospects for improvement.

The key strengths highlighted in the report included:
* Good access arrangements for customers.
* A well developed focus on diversity and equality issues, including a robust approach to developing and supporting community cohesion and sustainable communities.
* Customer involvement is good.
* Good anti-social behaviour procedures are delivering positive outcomes for customers.
* A strong complaints procedure, with good monitoring and management.

A number of recommendations were also made which Blackpool Coastal Housing is already working on improving as Chief Executive Peter Jefferson explains: "Everyone at BCH is delighted with the outcome of the Audit Commission inspection.

"I'd like to thank all the tenants and staff for their hard work in creating such a solid foundation for BCH to build upon.

"The inspection has highlighted a number of areas where improvements need to be made and we have already started working towards resolving the issues to ensure our tenants receive the best possible service.

"This fantastic result will unlock millions of pounds of finding to complete major improvements to thousands of Blackpool Council homes. "

Cllr Lily Henderson, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Housing, said: "I have been a great supporter of the decision to set up BCH and before taking over my current responsibility as Cabinet Member I was on its Board.
"I am delighted with the excellent result of this inspection, it is a credit to those tenant representatives and officers of BCH and the Council who have worked so hard to develop the service. This is a great example of the types of improvements we want for the people of Blackpool."
