Dorothy Thornhill, the elected Mayor of Watford celebrated seven families moving INTO the first of 27 new affordable homes off Whippendell Road in Watford, earlier this week. The new homes provided by Hightown Praetorian and Churches Housing Association, on the site of the old fire station, have been let to people through Watford's Choice Based Lettings scheme.
Hightown has worked in partnership with Watford Borough Council and the Homes & Communities Agency, which invested £800,000 in the new homes. |

Whilst visiting the new homes, and meeting some of the residents, Mayor Thornhill said "Though I wish it were otherwise, housing is a national crisis. It is high on the agenda for Watford, as the housing list keeps growing and costs keep rising. So the new homes really are much needed, especially in this location so near to the planned Croxley rail link."
"We have a very good relationship with Hightown, and I am delighted that they are building over 100 more homes in Watford this year."
Seven of the new apartments are available for shared ownership. Shared ownership is an easy and affordable way for first time buyers to buy their own home by purchasing a share in a property (normally around 50%) and paying subsidised rent on the remaining share. Shared owners can buy further shares when they can afford to, until they eventually own the property outright.
Hightown, a developing housing association based in Hemel Hempstead, is on track to build 581 much needed affordable homes for people in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire during 2012. This is more new homes than Hightown has ever delivered in one year before. |
