13 new homes in Frome
|
| Tuesday 20th April 2010 |
Selwood Housing has opened its first new homes at High Point Court, in Butts Hill, Frome. The Trowbridge-based housing association has built thirteen apartments for rent.
Amongst the first to move in were Mrs Pearl Lee and her daughter, they had previously, been living in a top floor flat which at the age of 86 was becoming quite a struggle. She said 'I am so happy with my new home. It is so much better than the top floor flat I came from. I can walk into town from here and the health centre is just around the corner. My daughter and I are over the moon'.
The apartments make the most of 'green' technology and have NIBE systems that use 'waste' hot air from the kitchen and bathrooms to heat their water. The building itself is energy efficient with ground floor apartments containing under floor heating.
Built on the site of a redundant petrol station, its position borders a conservation area, so natural materials were used throughout the development to ensure that it remains in keeping with its surroundings.
Chair of Selwood Housing, John Alford said: "These state-of-the-art apartments combine the space and quality you would expect in a new home with the latest environmental benefits. Living in one of these homes will not just help the environment but save our tenants money by saving on their energy bills"
The one-and two-bedroom apartments were let through Mendip District Council's Homefinder Somerset scheme to people on the waiting list for an affordable home.
The development is a joint venture between Mendip District Council, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Selwood Housing. |
