The Property Maintenance Unit currently employs in the region of 100 skilled trade operatives delivering the Maintenance Service to the Council’s existing housing stock. Property Maintenance is expected to transfer with the 5,500 homes as a business unit to Wansbeck Homes (newly created RSL), upon successful registration of the company in March 2008.
Following an overwhelming vote of tenants in Wansbeck, in favour of stock transfer, Cheviot Housing Association and Wansbeck Homes will become subsidiaries in a newly formed, not for profit organisation called Bernicia Group Limited. Bernicia will provide strategic central services to the asset owning operating companies Cheviot and Wansbeck.
The transfer will unlock around £80 million in investment in homes and services over the first five years, kick starting a programme of repairs and improvements. The work will cover:
* At least 4,000 homes benefiting from double glazing.
* 2,500 fully fitted kitchens.
* 2,500 new bathrooms.
* 2,500 heating system upgrades.
* 2,500 homes to have electrical works. |
