Two Piers Housing Co-operative Ltd is a Fully-Mutual Friendly Society registered under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act. Full-mutuality means that all tenants are the landlord and only those wishing to become tenants can apply for membership. This ensures the co-op is forever accountable to its tenants and those who would join them and nobody else. Technically speaking the members are not only the shareholders but on the Board of Directors.
You need to become a Prospective Tenant Member before you can be offered a tenancy. Some of the practical reasons for this are so that you can gain a basic knowledge of how Two Piers runs its affairs, before you are thrown in at the deep end and expected to carry out your agreed duties as a Member of the Co-op; to allow the membership of Two Piers and/or members of a living group (house/flat) to get to know you, prior to your moving in to a tenancy; to encourage our links with the wider community outside of Two Piers. |
