Stevenage Homes Ltd is an Arms-Length Management Organisation (ALMO). An ALMO is a “Not for Profit” company. Stevenage Homes Ltd is wholly owned and controlled by Stevenage Borough Council.
From Sunday 1st October 2006 Stevenage Homes Ltd will take over the day-to-day running of Stevenage Council homes on behalf of the Council. This will also include management of the Housing Needs Register and allocating Council homes.
The homes will still be owned by Stevenage Borough Council and most of the staff of the Council’s housing service will be transferring to Stevenage Homes. The Council’s Customer Service Centre will continue to handle basic housing enquiries.
The Government has set a standard for Council homes called the Decent Homes standard. Stevenage Homes will be responsible for making sure all Council homes in Stevenage meet this standard by 2010. |
