South Wight Housing Association is a wholly owned subsidary of Southern Housing Group following the merger of the two organisations in July 2002. The merger was hailed at the time by the Housing Corporation as "a model for others, in terms of procedure, preparation, transparency and accountability".
South Wight Housing Association merged with the Isle of Wight Housing Association (IWHA) on 3 October 2005 to form the largest housing association on the Island. It owns and manages over 3000 homes and with nearly 300 staff it provides over one-third of the Isle of Wight’s supported housing.
Established as a Large Scale Voluntary Association in 1990, its properties include general housing for families, sheltered schemes for the elderly, homeless accommodation, a women’s refuge, supported housing for people recovering from substance abuse and homes for people with learning difficulties and mobility needs. |
