South Tyneside Homes is an arms length management organisation (ALMO) created by South Tyneside Council to manage, maintain and improve its council homes and estates. It is a non-profit-making company that is 100% owned by South Tyneside Council.
South Tyneside Homes manages approximately 19000 homes, and is working to improve council housing within the Borough.
In April 2006 responsibility for managing council homes in South Tyneside moved from South Tyneside Council to South Tyneside Homes, along with 700 staff from the then Council’s Housing and Construction Related Services.
As an ALMO we can focus on delivering and improving council housing services for tenants and leaseholders. We are also able to access money that would not have been available to the Council had they retained management of council homes. We will use this funding to make major improvements to council homes within the Borough bringing them up to Decent Homes Standard by 2013. |
