South Lakes Housing is the Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) set up by South Lakeland District Council from April 2004 following an emphatic 88% 'yes' vote in a tenant ballot.
SLH secured access to £21 million of extra funding to upgrade homes to the 'Decent Homes' standard. The Decent Homes programme was completed in 2010. 80% of the workforce employed was from the local area, and helped fit 1,508 new kitchens, 949 new bathrooms, 839 new heating/boilers and 1,564 new doors.
The government's Audit Commission Inspectors awarded SLH a 'good' 2 star rating with excellent prospects in its inspection in June 2008.
SLH has been awarded three ‘Gold’ awards from Cumbria Environment Network for its achievements on reducing its carbon footprint.
SLH was awarded the ‘achieving equality’ level from the Improvement and Development Agency in recognition for its work on considering equality and diversity in its business.
Independent cost comparison research website ‘Housemark’ shows SLH as a high performer, with top performance in terms of efficiency and effectiveness for housing management and maintenance. |
