Severnside Housing is a not for profit company which exists to provide affordable housing and services to support the tenants who live in its homes. It is a Registered Social Landlord and is regulated by the Housing Corporation, which is a non-government organisation accountable to the Communities and Local Government.
Severnside Housing manages 5,320 homes in and around Shrewsbury following the stock transfer of homes from Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council (SABC) on October 1, 2001
A tenant ballot was held in April 2001 following a period of detailed consultation as to whether they wished their homes to be transferred to Severnside Housing. As part of this consultation process, tenants received an offer document from the Shadow Board of Severnside Housing that made a commitment to improve homes and services and guaranteed protection of tenants’ rights and rent levels. In addition, SABC made a commitment to use the proceeds of the sale of the housing stock to fund the provision of 500 additional homes for rent.
We are currently half way through our five year £27 million improvement programme, and regularly report our latest delivery figures to tenants through our quarterly Pillar newsletter. Our rolling improvement and development programmes would be able to offer other RSLs economies of scale, competitive pricing and seamless integration into existing contracts and have made a good start on developing new homes. |
