St Petroc's Society was the first organisation in Cornwall to provide accommodation and social care services to meet the needs of single homeless people. Formed in 1986 at the instigation of the Bishop of St Germans, it has considerable support from all the churches, local communities and dedicated groups of 'Friends'.
Single homeless people are those who, more often than not, fall outside the responsibility of statutory authorities. Very often they are sleeping 'rough' and may have a range of difficulties, including drug or alcohol dependency, mental ill health, relationship problems or an offending lifestyle, which contribute to their homelessness and social exclusion. |
