Riverside North East was launched on 1 April 2006 following a merger between The Riverside Group and Newcastle and Whitley Housing Trust. Riverside North East owns or manages over 600 general needs flats and houses, as well as over 300 supported housing tenancies in the North East, making it a significant provider of good housing in the area.
Newcastle & Whitley Housing Trust Limited was formed in 1927 by a group of philanthropic businessmen after hearing a sermon preached in 1927 at St. Luke's Church on "Homes".
Initially, the Trust concentrated on acquiring and refurbishing property for rent in the inner city areas of Newcastle and Gateshead but over the years, it expanded its activities to provide sheltered accommodation for elderly people and for tenants with other support needs. |
