North Hertfordshire Homes (NHH) is one of the largest Registered Social Landlords in Hertfordshire, providing around 8,200 homes for rent including over 800 sheltered homes for older people and around 200 temporary and supported housing places. We were originally set up in April 2003 to take over the housing stock of North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) but are now not only building more homes within North Hertfordshire, but also moving into adjacent districts.
Our headquarters and repairs depot are located in Letchworth Garden City, but we also have a network of four local neighbourhood offices in Hitchin, Royston, Baldock and Letchworth. The majority of our homes are located in these four towns, but we also have properties scattered throughout the villages across North Hertfordshire.
We are four years into a major five-year improvement programme, investing around 120 million in our tenant’s homes. We will achieve, and exceed, the governments Decent Homes Standard two years ahead of the 2010 deadline.
We are set up as an Industrial and Provident Society with charitable rules and all our profits are ploughed back into the business to finance improvements to stock and the development of new homes.
In our first four years of operation we have received excellent assessments from the Housing Corporation and we are on our way to becoming one of the leading housing associations in the country. Additionally we are also the ground landlord and managers of about 550 leasehold properties and we own a number of commercial units located on our estates. |
