In a confidential postal ballot carried out by the independent organisation Electoral Reform Services, 53.2 of tenants voted in favour of transfer with 46.8% voting against. Overall there was a 60.5% turnout.
Under the transfer, approximately 6,350 tenanted homes and 2,550 leasehold homes have transfered to Merton Priory Homes, which has been set up with Circle Anglia, an existing housing group, as its partner.
Transferring the homes will unlock a multi-million pound programme of investment that will mean all tenanted homes will be brought up to the modern standards tenants deserve – standards fit for the 21st century.
Transfer is not just about the bricks and mortar of homes. Residents, leaseholders and the immediate estates environments will benefit too. There will be more money for environmental improvements to help breathe new life into communities and rebuild pride in housing estates. |
