Hyndburn Homes is an Industrial and Provident Society which was sponsored by Hyndburn Borough Council. It was set up specifically for the purpose of accepting the transfer of properties from Hyndburn Borough Council. Its intention is to maintain and improve the transferring rented stock, to contribute to the regeneration of the area and create additional units of social housing in the District.
In total 3,300 housing units were transferred from the Council to Hyndburn Homes ownership. The transfer took place on 31st March 2006. At this time Hyndburn Homes became part of the wider Contour Housing Group which is one of the largest providers of Social Housing in the North West of England.
The primary reasons for the council transferring its stock to the Association was to ensure that all outstanding repairs and maintenance work, and an improvement programme were carried out to the properties and that much needed new investment was undertaken. The Local Authority would have been unable to meet the Decent Homes Standard by 2010. |
