Northumberland Court was opened in 1887 under the name of “Hull Municipal Charities”, having been purpose built for the provision of almshouses. Originally there were 101 bedsits and in the mid 1990’s, the bedsits were modernised and converted into 58 self-contained almshouse flats. The flats are all individual in their design with one bedroom, although some are more suitable for couples than others. Lift access is available to the first floor and there is a secure entry system to the building.
The Almshouse Charity was established under a Trust Deed dated 27th May 1913. The charity now comes under the umbrella of “Hull United Charities” and Northumberland Court has been registered as a Grade II listed building and a Category 2 sheltered housing scheme for persons over the age of 55.
