SHYPP (the Herefordshire Supported Housing for Young People Project) was established in 2001 and is part of the Kemble Housing Association.
SHYPP work with around 200 young people aged 16-25 every week who are in need of extra support to manage their tenancies, access accommodation or to gain employment or training. This is done with the intention of moving young people towards independence and recognises the importance of looking at the whole of the young person not just their housing situation. The Kemble Board oversee SHYPP's strategic operations but have appointed a steering group and a Youth Board to act as advisory groups to monitor SHYPP's performance and make recommendations about changes.
The steering group includes West Mercia Police, Jobcentreplus, Connexions, Herefordshire Council for Voluntary Youth Services, Herefordshire College of Technology and representatives from Herefordshire Council. The youth board consists of young people accessing SHYPP services who want to shape the service they receive and ensure that SHYPP continue to reflect the views and needs of the people they support. |
