| General Information / Background |

Grimsby & Cleethorpes YMCA is a fully autonomous charity. It has to be totally self sufficient receiving no financial support from the national body. However, as such it has no obligation to provide an imposed set of services and facilities. We are free to determine our own priorities; to meet the specific needs of our own local community, which we identify through consultation with the authorities and agencies which govern the district, support and care organisations which service the area and, in particular, with those who live in the community.
Through our 71 bed hostel and 26 bed Foyer Project, we work with young people, providing accommodation and training for the homeless and unemployed.
We run youth clubs, and work through our detached youth work project ‘Streetlink’ directly with young people on the streets of the local area.
We run sports and leisure facilities and activities for the whole community - with an emphasis on working with young people to introduce them to sports and to help develop skills and ability to match their capabilities. These activities extend into our work with local infant and junior schools where numeracy and literacy are linked to athletic competition. |
