 General Information / Background
Golding Homes exists to provide affordable homes in communities where people want to live.

Golding Homes is Maidstone's largest social landlord. We own and manage over 6500 properties in the Maidstone and Tonbridge & Malling Boroughs.

Golding Homes began with the transfer of homes in February 2004 from Maidstone Borough Council. At that time we were known as Maidstone Housing Trust.

We are a Registered Social Landlord. We are a non-profit making, charitable organisation, registered with the Tenant Services Authority and Homes and Communities Agency, and a company registered with Companies House.

Golding Homes is a member of the National Housing Federation (NHF) and follows the NHF’s Code of Governance, requiring the highest standards of governance, accountability and probity in everything we do. Our compliance with the Code of Governance is reviewed annually.

We changed our name to Golding Homes from Maidstone Housing Trust in March 2010. We chose the name Golding because it refers to the Golding hop, and the Maidstone district was known as the “Mother of Hop Gardens in England”. The Golding Hop variety was discovered by Mr Golding on his farm in Malling in 1790. Different varieties of hop are grown for different types of brew. The Whitbread Goldings variety, a disease and weather resistant variety developed in 1911, has a fragrant aroma and flavour for light beers.
