| General Information / Background |
Freebridge Community Housing will be responsible for carrying out the programme of property modernisation and improvements required to meet the Decent Homes Standard by 2010 – as well as for maintaining and improving services to tenants. These will include facilities for, and providing help for those experiencing difficulty with, paying rent, dealing with cases of anti-social behaviour/neighbour nuisance and continuing to rent property to people in need of affordable accommodation.
Freebridge Community Housing will be governed by a Board, made up of 15 volunteer members, who have been selected in accordance with their skills, experience and knowledge to run the Association. 5 of the Board volunteer members are nominated by the Borough Council, 5 are independent members drawn from a variety of professions/backgrounds and 5 are tenants of the Borough Council. The latter is a crucial element in the future of Freebridge Community Housing, which is committed to the principles of the 'Community Gateway' model. This model aims to empower and involve tenants in all aspects of the operation and activities of the Housing Association, and to ensure that it contributes to improving the social and economic welfare of its tenants.
Freebridge Community Housing will also, as an Housing Association, be regulated and overseen by the Housing Corporation, a Government Agency which ensures that Housing Associations operate to the highest standards of efficiency and probity. |
