Exeter Municipal Charities was founded some 900 years ago. Their original purpose, which is unchanged today, was to provide accommodation for people who felt unable to remain in their own homes by reason of failing health or reduced circumstances.
The people who run the Charity are known as Trustees. They are appointed by the City Council or recruited locally from people of experience, who give their services free on behalf of the community.
They have 8 groups of properties situated in different locations within easy reach of the City Centre. There are in all 134 dwellings, consisting mainly of one-bedroomed flats on ground or first floor, with some two storey cottages, and a purpose built block of 9 bedsits and 6 flats on ground, first and second floors, served by a communal passenger lift. |
