General Information / Background


Darent Housing Co-operative comprises 47 units situated in the picturesque Kent village of Sutton at Hone. The properties comprise 9 one bed one person flats, 25 one bed two person flats, 8 two bed three person flats and 5 three bed five person houses and are within the self contained cul de sac of Axtane Close. The estate was developed in the early 1980’s by CDS Co-operatives. Residents took control in 1987 when the co-operative began to function as an independent fully mutual co-operative. CDS Co-operatives has provided management services to the co-operative since 1987 when the management agreement was formally agreed and signed. Properties benefit from electric storage heaters and all original kitchens were replaced by the co-operative 2 years ago. There are communal gardens in the close which are well maintained by the co-operative. The co-operative ran a scheme up to January 2005 called the 'Active Elderly Redecoration Policy' whereby every old age pensioner had one room of their choice redecorated. The properties are situated on the Greater London/Kent borders with easy access to the Kent countryside. Farningham Road BR is 10 minute walk away. The journey to London Bridge takes approximately 45 minutes and trains depart on a regular basis. Darent Housing Co-operative has contractual tenancies and has a 50% nominations agreement with Dartford Borough Council. The co-operative maintains its own waiting list in order to allocate the remaining 50%.
