Wells Old Almshouses (WOA) and Llewellyn, Charles and Harper's Almshouse Trust (LCH) merged in 2004 to become City of Wells Almshouses. The Trust is supervised by the Charity Commission and administered by a Board of Trustees appointed by the Chapter of Wells Cathedral and Wells City Council and which includes the Dean of Wells Cathedral and the Mayor of Wells.
Over the years the type and standard of accommodation provided has been steadily improved and all flats and cottages are now self-contained with a kitchen, bathroom, lounge and at least one bedroom. The charity is responsible for the upkeep of the buildings and the overhead costs of running the two sites. |
