Cheriton Housing Co-operative is on a quiet cul-de-sac close to the shopping area of Cheriton in Folkestone. There are 21 properties consisting of 12 two bed 4 person houses and 9 three bed 5 person houses. One of the 3 bed houses has been wheelchair adapted.
The co-operative was built in 1995 in conjunction with Shepway Council, The Housing Corporation and private finance. After training, Cheriton became an independent fully mutual co-operative in 1998. All properties have double glazing, fitted kitchens, gas central heating, they also have their own drive ways and there are communal car parks with security lighting. There is a service charge for communal gardening.
The estate is close to Cheriton shopping centre with schools and allotments nearby and is within easy access of major roads to London and Dover. Cheriton Housing Co-operative issues contractual tenancies and has a 100% nominations agreement with Shepway Council.
The co-operative has an active committee which has been involved with, for example, CDS Conferences and South East Kent Tenant Participation Forums Conference with tenant associations from all registered social landlords in south east Kent. |
