 General Information / Background
Cambridgeshire YMCA's Resident Support Team consists of three support workers, a resettlement worker and a benefits administrator. We accommodate young people between the ages of 16 and 28 from all kinds of backgrounds for a maximum of three years. Our main aim is empower young people to reach their full potential in a friendly and inclusive environment.

People come to us by various routes. We take referrals from statutory agencies such as Social Services, probation, and the Leaving Care Team. We also take referrals from other housing providers and advisory organisations such as the local young people's advice agency. As well as referrals young people can also contact us directly by phone or by dropping in and arranging an interview time.

Two members of staff interview every young person and the Support Team holds the information given in confidence. Since we are not a direct access hostel we do not accommodate people immediately (except in emergencies) but check references and try to give people a decision within 48 hours. Once accepted the young person is allocated a key worker who will be their main contact throughout their stay at the YMCA. Their key worker will offer practical and emotional support and help them access services that the young person has identified that they would like or need. This can be help with benefits, training, education, medical services, counseling or anything else that is needed. If we cannot help ourselves we have extensive links throughout the city and are able to refer people to the appropriate service.
