Beechwood Ballantyne is a community led housing association managing nine hundred homes underneath Bidston Hill, Prenton. The association was set up by tenant and resident volunteers when Wirral Borough Council decided to transfer all its council housing to a new landlord.
The estate has been managed by tenants and residents since 1995 and taking ownership of the property was a natural next step. The neighbourhood offers some of the best affordable rented housing in Wirral, with local amenities that include primary and junior schools, shops, recreation centre, pubs and a community owned social club.
Tenants and residents have overseen the transformation of a monolithic and run down council estate into a modern environment of family houses with gardens and sheltered flats and bungalows for older people. |
