Abeona was founded in 1975, during the squatting and short life housing movements of that period. In 1983 it was registered to provide permanent co-operative housing through the acquisition and development of property. The Co-op owns and manages 44 permanent dwellings in North Camden in the form of mostly one bedroom units although there are several larger family units. Abeona remains a diverse community of individuals, couples and families representing a mix of ethnicity, gender, culture and sexual orientation. Some units are specifically designated for disabled members.
The principal housing stock comprises converted Victorian properties rehabilitated between 1988.–1994. Most of the units (36) are located in Fleet Road NW3. Within the stock of 44 homes, Abeona has 4 flats in part of a new build small estate shared with 2 other Co-ops and 1 Housing association (Meru Close). These are all fine properties that the co-op is proud of and we endeavor to maintain to a high standard. |
