The house is owned and managed by The Abbeyfield St. Albans Community Care Society Ltd. and is a member of the national Abbeyfield Society, established nearly fifty years ago, to provide care for older people in non-institutional settings. The St. Albans Society was established in 1960 and moved into the purpose-built Grace Muriel House, named after a major benefactor, in 1972.
The Society completed a major redevelopment and upgrade in October 2002, part of which included the addition of ten new rooms and the provision of 17 rooms with en-suite facilities.
