The Abbeyfield Society was founded in 1959 as an expression of Christian concern in response to the increasing number of elderly people who no longer feel able to look after themselves at home.
It is a federation of voluntary local societies, each with Charitable Status, which set up and manage family sized houses. There are about 850 houses throughout the country, one of which is Darwin House.
The non-profit making policy, using voluntary management committees, ensures that residents’ charges, throughout the Abbeyfield movement, are modest. |
