20/20 Housing Co-operative owns 49 homes in the Balsall Heath area of Birmingham. Set up in 1982, the co-op caters for a mixture of single people and families. Some of the co-op’s homes are old houses converted into flats, others are newly built and redeveloped terrace homes.
The co-op has a committee of 15 tenants who make all the decisions about how the co-op is run, but it buys some housing management services from an agency that specialises in providing services to housing co-ops (Birmingham Co-operative Housing Services). The co-op estimates that about two thirds of the co-op’s members/tenants are involved in some way in running the co-op.
20/20 is a registered social landlord with the Housing Corporation.
